Winners unveiled in SET’s Crown Diamond Economic Contest for primary and high school levels

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), jointly with partners, has announced the winners of the 11th Crown Diamond in Economics Contest, with Pitchaya Paramavej, a student from Mahidol Wittayanusorn School receiving the winning trophy in senior high school level from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. 
          Over the past decade, the contest has groomed over 45,000 students to become brilliant diamonds in economics, including sufficiency economy philosophy, personal finance and life assurance. Impressively, the 2019 competition could attract the highest number of participants of 5,641 from 1,266 schools. 
          SET Senior Executive Vice President Krisada Sektrakul said that the Crown Diamond Economics Contest focuses on instilling economics principles and financial literacy, which are vital life skills for Thai youths. The contest grooms quality seeds for the country to grow sustainably. In addition, it also promotes an initiative form of outside classroom learning. These efforts and commitment are in line with SET’s vision of “To Make the Capital Market ‘Work’ for Everyone”. 
          This year’s highlight was the opportunity for contestants to apply their ability in analytical thinking through their presentation of case studies. In addition, there were activities to enhance the contestants’ savings and financial planning skills via the simulation of the SET’s INVESTORY discovery museum, equipped with practical financial planning tools for teachers and parents to experiment. 
          Apart from the trophy, the top winners have also received gold medal, scholarship and certificate. In addition, the top three winners in high school level and their advisers have also received an overseas field trip prize, overall for a total worth more than THB 1 million (USD 32,260). 
          The winners of the 11th Crown Diamond in Economics Contest 2019 are as follows:
          – Gold medalist in junior primary school level: Nanattharat Waewwirakhup, Suteetorn School, Nakhon Pathom
          – Gold medalist in senior primary school level: Warinthorn Pimolsri, Srinakharinwirot, University Prasarnmit Demonstration School (Elementary), Bangkok
          – Gold medalist in junior high school level: Sutapat Tangamornsitthichai, Benchamarachuthit Chanthaburi School, Chanthaburi
          – Gold medalist in senior high school level: Pitchaya Paramavej, Mahidol Wittayanusorn School, Nakhon Pathom

          The 11th annual “Crown Diamond in Economics” competition was organized by SET, together with Romchatra Foundation, Thai Life Assurance Association, Faculty of Economics of Chulalongkorn University, Faculty of Economics of Thammasat University, and Satriwitthaya 2 School. The Capital Market Development Fund Foundation, Economic Intelligence Center of The Siam Commercial Bank pcl, and President Bakery pcl were co-sponsors.
          In addition, the Crown Diamond in Economics Contest for university level will be held on October 27, 2019 at Chulalongkorn University.
